WRITING RULES

Preparing the Article



Language: Turkish, English

The language of the journal is Turkish of Türkiye and English.

Article Types: Clinical and experimental research articles, case reports, review articles, technical notes, and letters to the editor

The journal publishes clinical and experimental research articles, case reports, review articles, technical notes, and letters to the editor, prepared in accordance with all ethical guidelines in health sciences. The main text of review articles and research articles should not exceed five thousand words and case reports and review letters should not exceed two thousand words. Besides, we advise the authors to make the study as concise as possible to increase the impact of it.

Change of Author: It can only be received for consideration before the article is accepted. Authors are expected to carefully review the list and order of the authors before submitting their articles and provide the final list of authors during the original submission.

Writing rules:

• Nigde Medical Journal is a national peer-reviewed academic journal published twice a year, on March and September.

• Nigde Medical Journal is an open access academic journal in which plagiarism scanning, pre-assessment, blind peer-review, and editorial reading processes are conducted.

• The publication language of the journal is Turkish. However, studies written in English are also included in each issue.

• Articles should be submitted through DergiPark system.

• Articles submitted to the journal must not have been published before or accepted for publication. However, publications prepared from graduate theses and papers presented at scientific events such as symposiums, but not published anywhere can be published provided that a footnote is added in the Abstract stating from which thesis it was produced or in which scientific meeting it was presented.

• Articles submitted to Nigde Medical Journal must abide by the Vancouver Citation style.

• Articles should be written in Microsoft Office Word program (Word 97 or higher version), with at least 2.5 cm margins, all of the text should be in Times New Roman font, 12 pt and double-spaced, footnotes should be 10 pt, single-spaced and justified.

• Abstract, keywords, footnotes, bibliography, and tables must have been completed before the text is submitted.

• The authors must abide by the writing rules of the journal. Texts that do not abide by the writing rules are sent back to the author for corrections.

• The authors of the academic articles submitted to Nigde Medical Journal are deemed to have accepted the ethical principles and publication rules.

• Maximum one work of the same type by the same author can be published in a single issue.

• In multi-authored studies, the authors specify in which process the authors have contributed.

• Ethics Committee approval should be submitted for articles that require Ethics Committee approval, and this approval (name of the committee, date and number) should be stated on the first page of the article and in the method section. For studies that require Ethics Committee approval, check the Journal's Ethical Principles and Publication Policy.

• At the end of the article, before the bibliography, the researchers' declaration of contribution rate, if any, declaration of support, declaration of acknowledgment and declaration of conflict should be stated in accordance with the table below.

Citation Style

Articles should be prepared according to the Vancouver Citation Style. The Vancouver footnote or in-text citation, whichever is widely used in the field of science, can be preferred.



Final Checklist

It is expected that this list will be useful during the final check before uploading the article to the system of the journal.

Make sure that below information has been included:

2. All necessary files has been uploaded.

• Article text

• Copyright Agreement

3. The article has been "spellchecked" and "grammar-checked".

4. All references in the bibliography are cited in the text and vice versa.

How to Submit an Article

In the submissions, the account of the corresponding author of the study should be used. All correspondence regarding the submission is forwarded to the responsible author via e-mail which is sent through the system of the journal.

While uploading the article file, make sure that it does not contain anything that can reveal the identity of the author bearing the double-blind peer-review process in mind.

During the submission, the following commitment is received from the author in electronic form:

1. I am authorized/authorized by co-authors to submit this study to your journal.

2. The article is original, it has not been officially published in another peer-reviewed journal, it has not been reviewed by any other journal, and it does not violate any existing copyright or other third-party rights.

3. I/we agree that in case that the article is editorially accepted for publication, it will be licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0).

4. Copyright and intellectual property rights of the author(s) or employer(s) of the author(s), if any, are reserved. The author(s) undertake(s) that the publisher is not responsible for any claims or lawsuits to be filed by third parties due to copyright violation, and that all responsibility belongs to them.

5. The author(s) undertake(s) that there is no element of crime or illegal statement in the article and that no illegal materials and methods have been used while conducting the research.

Requests for Change of Author

Adding, deleting or rearranging the authors’ names in the list of authors can only be done before the article is accepted and only if the Editor of the journal approves.

If such a change is requested, the Editor requests from the corresponding author (a) the reason for the change in the list of authors and (b) written consent (e-mail) from all authors that they agree to add. Only in exceptional circumstances, the editor pays regard to adding, deleting or rearranging authors after the article has been accepted.

Writing Article

Authors who write original research articles should approach the topic in a distinctive way and with an objective discussion. The article should contain sufficient detail and references to allow others to repeat the work. Fraudulent or false statements on purpose are unethical behavior and unacceptable.

Originality

The author must guarantee that the article is original, it has not been published before elsewhere, and it is not under review for publication elsewhere in any other language.

Using Original Sources and Citation

Authors should ensure that they write completely original works and that if they have used the study or words of others, it is appropriately cited. Privately obtained information, such as conversations, correspondence, or discussions with third parties, should not be used without the explicit and written permission of the source.

Access to Data and How to Keep it

Authors may be asked to provide research data supporting their articles for editorial review and/or comply with the journal's open data requirements. Authors should be ready, if possible, to provide public access to this data and to keep this data for a reasonable time after publication. Our journal recommends uploading research data to TUBITAK's Aperta Portal.

Publishing the Same Article in More Than One Journal and At the Same Time

An author should not publish an article consisting of the same research in more than one journal. Submitting the same article to more than one journal at the same time is unethical behavior. An author should not submit a previously published article to another journal for review, except that it has been published as an abstract.

Publication of Studies Based on Survey and Interview

Ethics committee approval should be obtained for research conducted in all disciplines that require the mentioned approval, and this approval should be stated and documented in the article. For research that require ethics committee approval, information regarding the approval (name of the committee, date, and number) should be stated in the method section of the article, and also in either first or last page of the study; in case reports, information regarding the fact that the informed consent form got signed, should be included in the article.

Conflict of Interest

It refers to any financial or other kinds of interest that may cause the person to conflict with his/her own work, that significantly damages his/her objectivity, or provide an unfair advantage to any person or institution. All financial support resources and the role of sponsors in the study during the conduct of the research and the preparation of the article should be specified. If there is no source of finance, this should also be specified. Examples of potential conflicts of interest that need to be stated are consultations, salary, and grants. Potential conflicts of interest should be specified at the earliest possible stage.

Notifying the Errors

When an author notices a serious error or mistake in his/her published work, he/she should immediately notify the journal. It is also the author's liability to cooperate in retracting or correcting the article if it is considered necessary by the editor. In case that the editor or publisher learns from a third party that a published work contains errors, it is the author's liability to cooperate with the editor, including notifying the editor.

Image Integrity

It is not acceptable to enhance, darken, move, remove or add a particular feature to an image. Authors must abide by the policy of the journal for graphic images.
